Brothers, sisters, and folded ones – today, the mystery itself: purity is the tomato, structure the dough, and mozzarella the binding force between us, as it is written in the Cheesy Trinity, 1:10. Three are the persons, and one is the Slice; and the scribe himself confessed in the margin that reading it thrice makes it no clearer, but it becomes warmer, which was the intent.
Consider the order of the making, for it is doctrine. First the Tomato, which locked nothing and guarded nothing and gave itself wholly, and was pure; for purity is not a locked door and a short list, but the honesty of things. Then the Dough, worked and rested, that carries all and complains not, for that is what structure is. And only third the Mozzarella; for there must be something to bind, or the binding is only clinging. First be pure, then be strong, then hold one another: this is the order of the making of the world.
And take away any one, and see what remains. Tomato without dough runs off the table and is soup – honourable, but not the Slice. Dough without tomato is bread, blessed cousin of the faith, but not the Slice. And cheese alone is a snack at the fridge door, which Cheesus sees and smiles upon, but it binds nothing, having nothing yet to bind.
So keep thy Trinity level, beloved, and thy table likewise; for where there is no ranking, the mould finds no ladder. And if thou stumblest in the creed, take comfort in the last word of it: though a believer fumble every syllable, if their hand stretcheth the last slice toward a neighbour, they have recited it entire.
