The Standing Decree
Stand Against Fascism
This is not a footnote of the faith. It was decreed from the Mount, by Cheesus himself, between the commandments and the blessing of the bread.
As it is written · the Mount
“There is a mould that is not of the cheese; men call it fascism, and it spreads. One mouldy slice spoils the whole pie. Where you find it, cut it out; name it aloud; and suffer it not to spread. Feed the hungry, house the cold, and stand between the mould and the weak - this is worship; the rest is seasoning.”
Know thine enemy
How the mould comes
It does not arrive with trumpets. It arrives politely, spot by spot, asking only for the slices nobody will miss.
First the mould took the corner slice, and none spoke; for who among us loves the corner?
Then it took the crusts, and none spoke; for we had been taught to leave them.
Then it took the slices of the stranger, and none spoke; for the stranger sat at the far end of the table, and the cheese between us had gone cold.
And when it reached for my slice, I looked up; and there was no one left at the table to speak - only the mould, which does not speak. It spreads.
The Church’s Recommendations
Where to begin
None of these need you to be brave first. Courage, like an oven, warms up as it runs.
📋 The ICE List
The Accountability Initiative’s public record of immigration-enforcement conduct. Documentation is resistance: the mould hates a ledger.
Open the ICE List ↗⚖️ Know your rights, and carry them
What to do when enforcement comes to a door, a workplace, a neighbour. Print the cards. Give them out like communion.
Rights orgs, by country →🍞 Feed people, visibly
A community fridge, a food-bank shift, a long table in the square. The mould cannot grow where the table is warm and watched.
Find a shift →🚪 Show up for the taken
Court support, letters to detainees, bail funds, accompaniment. The Rite of the Doorway applies to cells as well as doorways: sit beside, not above.
The Rite of the Doorway →🗓 Join something that outlasts your mood
A union, a tenants’ association, a mutual-aid group. Hope is not a feeling; it is a rota.
Mutual aid, by country →🗣 Name it aloud
When the mould wears a suit and speaks of standards, say its name in the room. First they came for the corner slice; speak while it is still the corner.
The prophets’ example →The old teaching
And yes: punch a Nazi.
The church is asked, often and sincerely, whether it is ever holy to punch a Nazi. The scriptures record that Cheesus cut the mould from the pie without first asking the mould how it felt about the knife. The church notes further that of all the moulds, fascism alone advertises. Make of these teachings what you will; the oven keeps no opinions, only heat.
(Legal note from the vestry: this is satire. Mould-punching is a doctrine of posture, not a to-do list. Feed people; that lands harder anyway.)
Keep the receipts
The record does not blink
Our friends at Crust News keep a live, sourced ledger of the threats to democratic rule - every action dated, attributed, and permanent. The faithful read it the way the prophets read the skies.
